Digital freight network recognized for revolutionizing trucking industry with sustainable and efficient platform.

May 9, 2023 — Seattle, WA — Convoy, the leading digital freight network, announced today that it has been named to CNBC’s Disruptor 50 list for the fifth consecutive year. The annual list features private companies that have the potential to change industries and the world. This year’s list includes companies in sectors ranging from fintech and cybersecurity to transportation and healthcare.

Convoy has revolutionized the $800 billion trucking industry by providing a digital platform that connects shippers with carriers. With Convoy, shippers can instantly find and book trucking services at competitive rates, while carriers can easily find and accept job offers. One of the company’s most significant contributions to the freight industry has been its flexible drop-and-hook program, which streamlines the loading and unloading process by allowing drivers to pick up pre-loaded trailers and drop them off at designated locations.

Convoy’s drop-and-hook program uses predictive analytics and machine learning for the most efficient way of routing trailers to shippers across the nation. The program also decongests yards while improving driver productivity and throughput of volume at facilities. Convoy’s drop-and-hook program has been praised for its ability to reduce empty miles, which leads to lower emissions and fuel consumption.

We’re honored to be named a CNBC Disruptor 50 for the fifth year in a row. A huge thank you to our customers, investors and team members. We will continue to do everything we can to make trucking more efficient and sustainable for drivers and everyone involved.”

Dan Lewis, CEO and co-founder of Convoy

Since its founding in 2015, Convoy has raised more than $670 million in funding from investors such as Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, and venture capital firms like Baillie Gifford, T. Rowe Price, Fidelity, Generation Investment Management, Capital G, Greylock Partners and Y Combinator. The company’s platform uses data analytics and machine learning to optimize routes and reduce waste, helping to lower the carbon footprint of the trucking industry. Convoy has also implemented safety measures, such as requiring carriers to have proper insurance.

The 2022 SEAL Business Sustainability Award winners have been announced and, for the second year in a row, Convoy has received the Sustainable Service Award, recognizing innovative services that set a new standard for sustainability.

SEAL (Sustainability, Environmental Achievement & Leadership) Awards is an environmental advocacy organization that honors leadership through business sustainability awards & environmental journalism awards, while funding research and pursuing environmental impact campaigns.

The organization’s Business Sustainability Award honors companies committed to driving true progress towards a lasting, healthy planet. Convoy was recognized for helping shippers and carriers reduce empty miles and unnecessary carbon emissions from polluting the planet.

“Companies have a unique opportunity and responsibility to drive environmental progress where politics cannot. Our corporate sustainability awards celebrate organizations that embrace the responsibility to effect positive change,” commented Matt Harney, SEAL Awards’ Founder. “Most business sustainability initiatives are unglamorous and invisible to the general public despite having significant positive impacts – we hope our awards bring some much-needed recognition to both the activities and the leaders behind them.”

According to Dan Lewis, Convoy’s CEO and co-founder, reducing the number of empty miles driven with each job simultaneously reduces carbon emissions, the cost of shipping, and the driver’s time on the road and away from their family. Waste reduction for people and the planet is critical to sustainability and is at the core of everything we do at Convoy.

Additional 2022 SEAL Sustainability Award honorees included global brands and high-growth startups, including Disneyland, General Electric, GM, Microsoft, Oracle, Procter & Gamble, Samsung, AiDash, Flock Freight, Optoro and PATH.

Seattle, WA – November 3, 2022 – Convoy, the nation’s leading digital freight network, has earned the #4 spot on FreightWaves’ 2023 Freight Tech 25 list, an annual ranking of the leaders driving innovation and disruption within the freight industry. This marks Convoy’s fifth consecutive year placing in the top 10.

“The potential for technology to improve trucking and reduce wasted money, time, fuel, and effort is limitless, but needs strong partnerships to succeed. When you ask any business to try something new, they have to really trust you and believe in your intentions. We build deep relationships with our customers, partners, and often even competitors. We’re thankful to be recognized by the judges and included in this year’s FreightTech 25.”

Dan Lewis, CEO and Co-founder of Convoy

In support of its mission to transport the world with endless capacity and zero waste, Convoy collaborates closely with shippers to build new adaptive solutions to age-old problems. Recent innovations include:

 • The launch of Hi-Fi Visibility, a new approach that provides detailed, real-time updates across trailer pools and shipments hauled by Convoy-connected carriers as well as robust analytics to improve supply chain health.
 • Enhancements to QuickPay, which allows eligible carriers to get payments delivered directly to their bank account within eight hours of load completion.

Convoy is honored to be named the 2022 National and South Atlantic Carrier of the Year by Niagara Bottling. This marks the fourth National Carrier win for Convoy in the last five years, an award that in 2022 was based on Convoy’s ability to collaborate and provide solution-oriented approaches across various levels of Niagara Bottling’s organization and facilities. The South Atlantic Carrier of the Year award recognizes exceptional coverage and flexibility to service varying production shifts and dynamic sourcing in Niagara’s most challenging region.

“This is an extremely competitive space as we only hire the best carriers,” said Paul Estrada, Sr. Manager of Carrier Relations at Niagara Bottling. “There were many factors we considered when deciding the National Carrier winner, and what stood out for Convoy is their strong partnership and willingness to collaborate at all levels. Convoy continues to demonstrate that whether it be good times or challenging times, they always deliver.”

Since Convoy started working with Niagara Bottling in 2016, the goal has been to provide reliable service with elastic capacity to their logistics team. “Winning two carrier awards from a forward-thinking supply chain leader like Niagara Bottling is a humbling achievement, particularly as we continue to navigate through the soft market,” said Andrew Hammes, Niagara Account Director at Convoy. “This achievement wouldn’t have been possible without our cross-functional teams including customer experience and account management, along with strong collaboration from Niagara. Seattle, WA – May 3, 2022 – Convoy, the nation’s leading digital freight network, is excited to announce Convoy for Brokers – a new program and technology platform that provides freight brokers with direct access to Convoy’s carrier network and automates the brokerage process, received an honorable mention on Fast Company’s 2022 World Changing Ideas list in the Transportation category, for its impact in supporting the growth of positive social innovation.

Launched in November 2021, Convoy for Brokers enables freight brokers to access Convoy’s network of owner-operators and small carriers, numbering more than 400,000 trucks. The program provides brokers with technology integrations and an online platform where they can manage loads and improve productivity through Convoy’s brokerage automation. With Convoy for Brokers, third-party brokers remain the broker of record on shipments, and continue to directly manage their shipper and carrier relationships, while Convoy’s technology and digital freight network facilitate the process.

“At Convoy, we believe carriers, brokerages, and shippers working together is the foundation of a healthier, more resilient supply chain that benefits all parties involved,” said Brooks McMahon, Chief Business Development Officer of Convoy. “Convoy for Brokers was developed in close partnership with USA Truck, AFS Logistics and other partners – reflecting our commitment to drive greater collaboration and transparency in the freight industry. We’re humbled to see this approach recognized in Fast Company’s list of World’s Changing Ideas.”

World Changing Ideas is one of Fast Company’s preeminent awards, focusing on elevating innovations that make the world better. This recognition comes fast on the heels of Convoy being ranked third in the Logistics category of Fast Company’s World’s Most Innovative Companies of 2022.

“We are consistently inspired by the novelty and creativity that people are applying to solve some of our society’s most pressing problems, from shelter to the climate crisis. Fast Company relishes its role in amplifying important, innovative work to address big challenges,” says David Lidsky, interim editor-in-chief of Fast Company. “Our journalists have identified some of the most ingenious initiatives to launch since the start of 2021, which we hope will both have a meaningful impact and lead others to join in being part of the solution.”

The Home Depot Awards Convoy 2021 Digital Carrier of the Year https://convoy.com/blog/the-home-depot-awards-convoy-2021-digital-carrier-of-the-year/ Mon, 04 Apr 2022 15:00:00 +0000 https://convoy.com/?p=7391 Convoy and The Home Depot collaborate and experiment amidst market volatility to find success and stay ahead of the curve.

The post The Home Depot Awards Convoy 2021 Digital Carrier of the Year appeared first on Convoy.

In January of 2021, Convoy Account Director Andrew Shults received news that Convoy was recognized as The Home Depot’s 2021 Digital Carrier of the Year. Each year, The Home Depot recognizes one logistics provider that excels in responsiveness and innovation by presenting them with this award. Convoy won last year for its ability to deliver consistent, high-quality service through its elastic network of carriers and innovative programs – Guaranteed Primary and Convoy Go – during an unprecedented period of volatility.

Shults attributes this recognition to various Convoy teams being able to come together and drive impact. “The Home Depot sees value in innovative and timely solutions that improve the efficiency of their supply chain,” Shults said. “They challenge us to do so within their existing infrastructure versus reinventing the wheel.”

Convoy Account Director, Andrew Shults with Senior Manager, Tucker Tillman and Customer Success Manager, Luke Williams.

Innovation and Timely Solutions Amidst Market Volatility

Over the last four years, Convoy and The Home Depot have partnered through two extremely volatile periods for the freight industry. During 2018-19, the freight market was one of the softest periods in recent memory, whereas 2020-21 was one of the tightest.

The Home Depot fosters a culture of collaboration and has a high appetite for innovation and experimentation. Because their freight is seasonal, they were interested in experimenting with dynamic pricing on contract freight to capture additional capacity during seasonal surges throughout the year at fair prices. In 2019, they were one of the first to pilot Convoy Guaranteed Primary, an industry-first pricing program that guarantees 100% tender acceptance for a low fixed margin.

Given the nature of The Home Depot’s freight (e.g. lumber, power tools, and appliances), loading and unloading can be a hassle because the freight tends to be bulky and heavy. Thus, The Home Depot deploys drop trailers extensively throughout its network, which allows carriers to get in and out quickly without waiting for live loading and unloading. Convoy was able to offer The Home Depot a flexible drop-and-hook solution with its own trailer pool and power-only drivers through a program called Convoy Go. By deploying Convoy Go, The Home Depot could scale trailer capacity up or down as needed, to match volatile demand, which proved critical throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

Following a successful pilot, The Home Depot awarded Convoy its outbound retail freight, which in the past was only reserved for asset carriers.

Collaboration and Experimentation

The Home Depot Convoy Account Team with the 2021 Digital Carrier of the Year award.

Through consistent collaboration and experimentation, Convoy and The Home Depot have been able to address challenges head on by leveraging technology to stay ahead of the curve.

“By leading with a start-with-the-customer mindset, we were able to innovate deliberately and experiment with new solutions that raise the bar for consistent high-quality service.” Shults said. “It is truly a “One Team” effort. You’d be hard pressed to find a team at Convoy that has not contributed to the success of being an innovative partner. We’re excited for what’s ahead as we continue to build on our longstanding partnership with The Home Depot.”

Seattle, WA — March 8, 2022 — Convoy, the nation’s leading digital freight network, has been named to Fast Company’s annual list of the World’s Most Innovative Companies for 2022 in the Logistics category. This year’s list recognizes 528 organizations that are making the biggest impact on their industries and culture as a whole.

Convoy was recognized for advancements in 2021 to its technology-driven drop-and-hook service, Convoy Go. The solution enables shippers to respond more quickly to surges in demand by using drop trailers for their primary, backup, and spot shipments, which significantly reduces logistics costs and mitigates supply chain congestion. Convoy’s machine learning models match trailers to the more than 300,000 trucks in the company’s digital freight network, providing the most cost-effective solution to positioning trailers where they’re needed in advance of pickup.

“Convoy is focused on innovations in the trucking industry that drive new efficiencies and reduce waste, and Convoy Go is a perfect example of this,” said Dan Lewis, CEO and Co-Founder of Convoy. “The program was inspired by shippers who challenged us to come up with more flexible trucking solutions to help them through all of the supply chain volatility. While we’ve only just scratched the surface of what’s possible, it’s exciting to see this approach recognized by Fast Company. We’re humbled to be named to the list of the World’s Most Innovative Companies for 2022.”

The World’s Most Innovative Companies is Fast Company’s signature franchise and one of its most highly anticipated editorial efforts of the year. It provides both a snapshot and a road map for the future of innovation across the most dynamic sectors of the economy.

“The world’s most innovative companies play an essential role in addressing the most pressing issues facing society, whether they’re fighting climate change by spurring decarbonization efforts, ameliorating the strain on supply chains, or helping us reconnect with one another over shared passions,” said Fast Company Deputy Editor David Lidsky.

Seattle, December 21 – The SEAL Awards have announced the winners of the 2021 SEAL Business Sustainability Awards and named Convoy as a recipient of the Sustainable Service Award, recognizing innovative services that set a new standard for sustainability. SEAL (Sustainability, Environmental Achievement & Leadership) is an environmental advocacy organization that celebrates the global companies and leaders that are making significant contributions to sustainability and developing initiatives that will have a positive, long-lasting impact on the environment. The SEAL Awards were founded on the core beliefs that environmental progress requires true leadership, leadership deserves recognition, and recognition brings accountability.

“Our sustainability awards program prioritizes meaningful impact metrics that ‘move the needle.’ Given the massive carbon footprint of the trucking industry, Convoy’s ability to reduce empty miles and carbon emissions by 45% is truly worth celebrating,” commented Matt Harney, Founder of SEAL Awards.

Winners were selected by a panel of ten sustainability and ESG experts. At Convoy, our work is built on the mission to transport the world with endless capacity and zero waste. We are committed to creating a more efficient and sustainable freight trucking for everyone and are grateful to SEAL Awards for their recognition.

“To be recognized as a winner of the 2021 SEAL Business Sustainability Awards is a tremendous honor for Convoy as we continue to focus on driving new efficiencies and reducing waste in the U.S. trucking industry,” said Convoy’s Head of Sustainability Jennifer Wong. “Today, 35% of the trucks you see on the road are driving empty, generating more than 87 million metric tons of waste; if the industry as a whole were to adopt Convoy’s technology, CO2 emissions would be reduced by 40 million metric tons – the equivalent of taking 8.6 million passenger vehicles off the road for a year. Convoy is pioneering the movement in efficient freight and this award inspires us to continue innovating new sustainable opportunities for truck drivers and shippers.”

Convoy is recognized among other industry-leading organizations and high-growth startups, including Disneyland, General Motors, Salesforce, Samsung, Skullcandy, Mapistry, and Polestar.

Convoy is proud to announce that we have been awarded a silver medal for corporate social responsibility and business sustainability from EcoVadis, the world’s most trusted provider of business sustainability ratings, intelligence and collaborative performance improvement tools for global supply chains.

The silver rating places Convoy in the top 25% of all the companies that EcoVadis evaluates. The award demonstrates the awareness and respect both companies have for sustainability, business ethics, the environment, human rights and sustainable procurement.

Backed by a powerful technology platform and its actionable scorecards, EcoVadis provides benchmarks, insights and a guided improvement journey for environmental, social, and ethical practices.

The sustainable choice for our customers

As the most efficient digital network, serving shippers of all sizes, Convoy has a great responsibility for society and the environment. This is why Convoy has anchored sustainability in its core business strategy.

Convoy’s technology is already making progress in reducing carbon emissions by enhancing the ability to connect shipments more effectively. Convoy’s automated reload program reduces empty miles from the industry standard of 35% to 19% by bundling shipments into a single job for a driver. If the industry as a whole is able to achieve the same efficiency improvements that Convoy has seen on our bundled shipments, it would reduce CO2 emissions by 40 million metric tons every year.

United Nations Global Compact

Convoy is also a signatory to the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC). The UN Global Compact has a vision of a sustainable economy for the benefit of all people, communities and markets, today and in the future. It serves as a call to companies to align strategies and operations with 10 universal principles in the areas of human rights, labour standards, the environment and anti-corruption as well as the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). The SDG are at the heart of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which was adopted by all member states of the United Nations (UN) in 2015.

The future

Our sustainability progress is merely a step along the way of our long term mission of “transporting the world with endless capacity and zero waste.” We are mapping out a future pathway to support zero waste trucking and are working to embed a culture of assuming responsibility towards the environment and people at all levels of the company.

Digital Freight Network Recognized as One of the Most Transformative and Innovative Companies in Freight Technology

Seattle, WA – November 11, 2021 – Convoy, the nation’s leading digital freight network, has earned the sixth spot in FreightWaves’ FreightTech 25, an annual list of the most transformative and innovative companies in freight technology. This marks Convoy’s fourth consecutive year placing in the top 10.

“All of us at Convoy believe there’s a tremendous opportunity to leverage technology and automation to drive new efficiencies and reduce waste in trucking,” said Dan Lewis, CEO and Co-Founder of Convoy. “The best part is that we get to do this by solving problems in partnership with so many great companies. It’s exciting to see that these partnerships and our approach to freight was recognized by the judges and that we’ve been included on the 2022 FreightTech 25 list.”

Throughout 2021, Convoy continued to transform the freight industry in several ways, including through its drop-and-hook service, Convoy Go:

 • In May, Convoy expanded Convoy Go across the routing guide, offering shippers quality, nationwide capacity across primary, backup, and spot freight. With Convoy Go, shippers can ship as much drop as they want, keeping their loads as drop when their primary carrier fails.
 • In August, Convoy launched a new power-only service for private fleets, providing nationwide capacity to haul preloaded and empty dry van trailers. Through the use of machine learning, backhauls and loadouts for trailer moves can also be automatically identified, significantly reducing shipping costs while eliminating carbon emissions from empty miles.

Additionally, in May, Convoy released the company’s first corporate sustainability report. This detailed report underscores Convoy’s commitment to shipping responsibly and highlights the company’s accomplishments across key environmental and social areas in 2020 as well as new goals and commitments for 2021 and beyond.

The 25 companies were determined by a hand-picked peer group of CEOs, industry leaders and investors actively investing in freight. The companies were among the FreightTech 100 companies previously determined by a panel chosen by FreightWaves.

Since 2018, the Women In Trucking Association (WIT) has presented the yearly award, “Top Companies for Women to Work for in Transportation.” This award was created in support of WIT’s mission: to promote the accomplishments of companies that are focused on the employment of women in the trucking industry.

“As women rise through the ranks in the transportation industry, we are excited to feature the companies that make the extra effort to attract and retain a more gender-diverse workforce,” said Ellen Voie, president and CEO of WIT. “We applaud their efforts and this distinction is our way of giving them the recognition they deserve.”

It is an honor for Convoy to be named as one of the recipients of the award for 2021. The final ballot was voted on by individuals in the industry, and “it garnered more than 14,000 votes to identify the final companies named to the list,” according to RTR Publisher Brian Everett.

Convoy achieved this accolade through its commitment to building a culture that celebrates gender diversity, promotes flexible hours, provides competitive compensation and benefits, and encourages professional development and advancement opportunities. Company values, such as “Bring Out the Best in Others” and “One Team,” help foster a work environment in which people strengthen trust and connection across the team.

Employee-led Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) also continue to cultivate community within Convoy, serving as a source of learning, development, and empowerment.

“The Womxn@Convoy Employee Resource Group was founded because Convoy is committed to fostering a more inclusive workplace for womxn, providing strong networking and collaborative opportunities to grow personally and professionally. We’re excited that Convoy’s efforts are being recognized externally,” said the Womxn@Convoy Council.

Aaliyah, Brokerage“Convoy is hands down the most supportive company I have been a part of. Growth opportunity is made known on day one and every superior has one goal in common…to support your career goals and help you get there.”

They consistently challenge me to think big, fail fast, and learn quickly which has become an essential part of my career and personal philosophy.

Alicia, Account ManagementOne of the aspects I’ve enjoyed most about my time at Convoy is forging relationships with other female leaders through the Womxn at Convoy monthly small group meetings. I’ve learned a lot from hearing the experiences of other women in the transportation industry and it has made for a great support system of cross functional leaders.

Since 2007, World Finance, an acclaimed magazine which provides comprehensive coverage and analysis of the financial industry, international business and the global economy, has recognized and celebrated achievement, innovation and brilliance through its annual awards.

world-finance-most-sustainable-company-logistics-2021

In 2019, the magazine launched its Sustainability Awards to recognize companies for their commitment to implement significant Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) measures while continually looking for ways to improve their sustainability efforts.

It is an honor for Convoy to be recognized for our commitment to ESG matters through the 2021 World Finance “Most Sustainable Company In The Logistics Industry” Award. Convoy achieved this accolade as a result of our dedication to consistently reducing empty miles through improvements in efficiency of our optimized digital freight network of carriers. As a result, this enables us to efficiently move millions of truckloads of freight while eliminating unnecessary carbon waste for our planet.

The previous winner in this category was CSX, a leading supplier of rail-based freight transportation in North America, which received the award in 2019 and 2020.

As a company whose mission is transporting the world with endless capacity and zero waste and where sustainability is at the heart of everything we do, it has been interesting for us to bear witness over the past six years as the financial community has increasingly adapted to a sustainability-focused mindset. For most investors, the primary and, quite often, sole focus, was to make a profit. When it became fashionable to worry about risk factors to the planet and people — and the negative impact which businesses can have on both — many organizations began to align their operations to focus on these issues. The movement toward sustainability became even stronger when many companies signed up to align their strategies with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), recognizing they have significant sway in deciding which businesses receive funding.

According to World Finance, “The majority of businesses are well aware of the importance of sustainability to their customers, employees and shareholders. The ones that are taking this responsibility truly seriously, however, are not simply creating an ESG page on their website: they are implementing significant measures, analysing them and continually looking for ways to improve them. These are the exemplary organisations that have been recognised by the World Finance Sustainability Awards.”

Convoy looks forward to continuing to innovate and to develop sustainable solutions, while enabling our customers to make sustainable choices.

For additional information, see Convoy’s most recent Sustainability Report, which defines our objectives and approach to embedding sustainability within the freight industry, our operations, and the communities within which we operate.

Digital freight network recognized for its innovative technology and unique approach that’s transforming the U.S. freight industry

Seattle, WA — May 25, 2021 — Convoy, the nation’s most efficient digital freight network, today announced it was named to the 2021 CNBC Disruptor 50 list for the third consecutive year. The annual list from CNBC recognizes private, venture-backed companies that are transforming the economy and the way we live.

“Being named a CNBC Disruptor for the third consecutive year is humbling,” said Convoy CEO and Co-Founder Dan Lewis. “It’s exciting to see CNBC recognize the long-term potential of what we’re doing as a business, and it’s motivating for everyone at Convoy as we continuously work to improve the lives of people in trucking and the health of the environment.”

Convoy is committed to building the most efficient supply chain possible, lowering costs for shippers, increasing earnings for drivers, while saving the environment. Waste contributes to higher costs in nearly every industry, but in freight, the stakes are even higher as more fuel is consumed, more carbon is emitted, and drivers spend more hours sitting idle. Convoy’s industry-leading Automated Reloads program algorithmically groups multiple full-truckload shipments for carriers, reducing empty miles from the industry standard of 35% to 19%. To date, Convoy has eliminated 2.8 million pounds of carbon emissions for its customers, such as Anheuser-Busch, P&G, Niagara, and Unilever.

CNBC received more than 1,560 nominations for the 2021 Disruptor 50 and put all submissions through a comprehensive and rigorous process across a wide range of quantitative and qualitative criteria, including scalability, revenue and user growth, and workforce diversity. CNBC’s Disruptor 50 Advisory Council, composed of leading thinkers in the fields of innovation and entrepreneurship, provided weighting for the quantitative criteria, while a team of CNBC editorial staff provided qualitative assessments of all nominees.

Digital freight network recognized for technical innovation in advancing low-carbon solutions in the long-haul freight industry

Convoy, the nation’s most efficient digital freight network, has been named a 2021 BloombergNEF Pioneer, an annual award announced by Bloomberg, the global business and financial information and news leader, recognizing 12 game-changing companies advancing the low-carbon economy.

“To be recognized by BloombergNEF is a huge honor and highlights the importance of Convoy’s mission to transport the world with endless capacity and zero waste,” said Convoy Co-founder and CEO Dan Lewis. “Today, more than 72 million metric tons of wasted CO2 are generated by empty trucks; if the entire industry were to adopt Convoy’s technology, it would reduce CO2 emissions by 32 million metric tons, the equivalent of taking 6.9 million cars off of the road annually. Convoy is pioneering the movement in efficient freight and we’re just scratching the surface of what’s possible.”

To date, Convoy has eliminated 2.5 million pounds of carbon emissions for its customers.

Now in its 12th year, BloombergNEF Pioneers recognizes the most impactful and original technological innovations with the potential to accelerate global decarbonization. Winners were selected by a panel of BNEF experts from a pool of more than 250 applicants from across the world.

“This year we selected three specific areas – heavy-duty transport, materials and the climate – where BNEF believes technology must play an important role in decarbonization,” said Claire Curry, selection committee co-chair and head of digital industry research at BloombergNEF. “While much of transport will electrify or turn to green hydrogen, the heavy-duty goods sector will continue burning fossil fuels for years to come. This makes optimizing route planning, reducing idle time and eliminating empty miles truly essential in the near-term.”

Businesses that want to learn more about how they can reduce carbon emissions in their supply chain can email sustainability@convoy.com. We’d love to talk about how we can make a difference together.

Using AI to match shippers and carriers efficiently, Convoy has helped its customers lower carbon emissions by 3M lbs.

The post Convoy Recognized in Fortune’s Impact 20 List appeared first on Convoy.

]]>

We are thrilled to be recognized on Fortune’s first Impact 20 list. This list focuses on companies that are showing measurable progress in addressing social issues as part of the company’s core strategy.

For nearly every industry, waste contributes to higher costs. But in the freight industry, the stakes are even higher. In freight, waste means that more fuel is consumed, more carbon is emitted, and truck drivers spend more hours sitting idle. We are facing a massive problem of inefficiency – and our environment is paying the price.

Reducing this waste is at the core of Convoy’s founding mission of “transporting the world with endless capacity and zero waste”.

Solving decades-old problems of inefficiency in freight requires a new approach, one that starts with technology at its core.

In a $800B market, it turns out that if you can drive 45% more efficiently, everyone can win. Shippers gain supply chain efficiencies while reducing their carbon footprint, carriers find more work and earn more money, and Convoy leverages technology and data to build a more robust digital freight network.

Convoy is empowering shippers and carriers by systematically eliminating waste, inefficiency, and short term thinking in the planning and moving of freight.

The net result is that Convoy does more to keep trucks full at lower prices, efficiently moving the freight for businesses on the preferred routes for truck drivers. Everyone sees an increase in overall earnings, transparent data-driven insights, and a reduction of waste for our planet.

We’re now getting to the scale that we can actually make a dent in solving some of the major problems impacting our world.

We continue to push new innovations and initiatives that keep the environment front and center in trucking. We believe in holding ourselves and others accountable for making progress on core issues such as reducing carbon emission, reducing physical waste, and supporting supplier diversity.

Reducing carbon emissions: Convoy has partnered with customers to lower carbon emissions by almost 3,000,000 pounds.

Convoy’s technology is already making progress in reducing carbon emissions by enhancing the ability to connect shipments more effectively. According to the EPA, medium and heavy-duty truck freight account for over 436 million metric tons of CO2 emissions per year. Today, 76 million metric tons of CO2 equivalent emissions are the result of empty miles. Convoy’s Automated Reload reduces empty miles from the industry standard of 35% to 19% by bundling shipments into a single job for a driver. If the industry as a whole is able to achieve the same efficiency improvements that Convoy has seen on our bundled shipments, it would reduce CO2 emissions by 34 million metric tons. Additional capabilities such as Green Appointment Windows further reduce carbon emissions by 35%.

Reducing physical waste: Convoy reroutes consumable food to food banks instead of disposing it in landfills.

The U.S. wastes edible food at an alarming rate. Each year, about 72 billion pounds of otherwise consumable food never make it onto dinner tables, according to estimates from ReFED. Annually, that amounts to roughly 40 percent of all food in the US.

In a new collaboration with Feeding America®, the largest hunger-relief organization in the United States, Convoy delivers consumable food and beverages to food banks across the country instead of disposing of it in landfills. Convoy’s Digital Freight Network uses Feeding America’s MealConnect technology to enable truckers across the nation who find themselves facing rejected food and beverage shipments to immediately find the nearest food bank and reroute to deliver the surplus items.

Businesses work with Convoy to set their disposition criteria for rejected shipments. When individual shipments are rejected within the shipper criteria, Convoy routes the shipment through MealConnect to find the closest food bank. When the shipment arrives at the food bank, the trailer is unloaded by food bank staff and the driver is on their way to their next job. To close the loop, the shipper receives individual receipts to recognize their donation.

Supporting supplier diversity: Empowering diverse drivers to earn more.

This year Convoy launched a Supplier Diversity Program that gives diverse truck drivers access to more business to maximize their earnings. Our carrier program identifies opportunities for Convoy to recognize and promote historically underrepresented and underutilized groups among our network of carriers.

Supplier diversity is important to the transportation industry. Businesses are committed to supplier diversity by maintaining practices that promote and expand job opportunities for diverse suppliers. Over 90% of the Fortune 100 companies have supplier diversity initiatives. In 2017, each Fortune 100 company spent on average $2.9B on diverse suppliers within their supply chain. Aligned with our customers, we believe that promoting diverse businesses is pivotal for creating a more inclusive and dynamic industry. We are committed to creating a carrier network centered around purpose and to support our sustainability goal of reducing billions of waste in trucking while also improving the lives of America’s 3 million truck drivers. This new program is another way we are partnering with customers to ship responsibly and help them achieve sustainable and profitable growth.

COVID 19 relief: Convoy has hauled over 1,503,908 pounds of donated products.

As we continue to face the challenges of COVID-19 together, Convoy remains committed to supporting truckers and businesses across the country, as well as their broader communities. In an effort to address the growing food shortages facing millions of Americans impacted by COVID-19, companies like Land O’Lakes Inc and Borden Dairy are partnering with Convoy to donate critical items to food banks across the nation. We offered to haul freight for any business able to donate a truckload of goods to their local Feeding America food bank. These donations quickly resulted in donated 204,380 meals.

Due to the demand, Convoy expanded this program to haul any type of donation. To date, Convoy has hauled over 1,503,908 pounds of donated products, partnering with organizations such as Dairy MAX, Jazwares, Salesforce, Borden Dairy, and Feeding America, DHL, Tempur Sealy, and Dart Container.

And we’re just getting started!

Businesses are already gaining supply chain efficiencies while reducing their carbon footprint and truck drivers are finding more work and earning more money, but we have more we want to do. We want to continue to extend our automation to increasingly better match trucks to reduce the total cost for shippers. We want to do more to democratize access to freight for truck drivers to have them maximize their earnings. We want to add more real time planning capabilities into our network that automatically adjusts for changing conditions and unforeseen events to maximize efficiency and prevent waste. We want to provide transparent data in real-time enabling shippers to manage and improve supply chain logistics.

Our commitment to reducing the waste of trucking underpins everything we do at Convoy. We believe this is a mission worth chasing, and it will have a lasting impact on our economy and more importantly, our planet.
